What is an AI operating system?

An AI operating system is the layer that turns models into a working environment: agents as processes, tools as devices, memory as the filesystem, and receipts as the audit log. It is where AI work runs, not just where it is imagined.

The OS metaphor, literally

Operating systems exist to schedule work, mediate access to resources, and keep processes from trampling each other. Swap processes for agents and devices for tools and the job description transfers exactly.

Why chat interfaces are not enough

A chat window gives a brilliant intern amnesia and no hands. An AI OS gives that intelligence identity, memory, tools, permissions and a work history — the conditions under which delegation becomes rational.

Accountability as a first-class citizen

The defining feature of a serious AI OS is that every operation explains itself. Receipts, approvals and attribution are not enterprise add-ons; they are what make the rest usable.

Common questions

Is AGNT an AI operating system?

That is the design goal: a local-first OS where agents hold jobs, use tools, remember, and prove their work.

Does an AI OS replace my other software?

No — it operates your other software, through integrations, on your behalf.

Give AI a job. Get the proof.
